I confess. I’m a couch potato

They say the first step towards improving yourself is to admit that you have a problem. So, I confess! I’m a couch potato! And I only slightly feel bad about it, maybe 10% bad.

I love sitting down. I love my couch, I love sitting on it, reclining on it, napping on it. I do my hair and makeup relaxing on it while I get ready and so on. There is even a permanent presence of a blanket on the couch to keep me warm.

Me enjoying the company of my couch

As I get older, I find I’m turning more and more into a couch potato. I’m too tired I say, I’ve been working all day I say, I have housework to do and I deserve a break. I have many excuses ready to go for when I need them.

Here is a real life example of how much I like sitting down from when I was 15 years old. On our journey from New Zealand to Britain, we stopped in Rome, Italy. There, we also visited the Vatican. Which was absolutely beautiful, it had numerous works of art and my parents love this kind of stuff. Me? Not so much. We would walk room to room appreciating the artwork (well, my parents did) and they would easily spend 20 minutes per room. Instead, I would take a visual sweep of each room and its art and promptly search for the nearest seat. This example from the Vatican can really be applied to any museum we have been too, or any museum we will ever go to. It’s not that I don’t like museums, I just prefer the more sciencey or fossil type of museums—but even then, I would still search for a seat.

Over the past couple weeks I’ve been getting back into exercise. Nothing too strenuous, just going to the gym and cycling for 30 minutes and stretching. Some days I mix it up and include using other gym equipment; I have no idea what the names of the equipment I use are, or what they do…but I use them nonetheless.

Confession: I find the gym mind numbingly BORING. The only way I can get through it is to watch Netflix. Lately, I’ve been re-watching season 1 of ‘Jane the Virgin’, and oh my, it is the only reason I manage to tolerate the gym.

Using gravity to do my stretching for me
