I Confess. I’m A Couch Potato

They say the first step towards improving yourself is to admit that you have a problem. So, I confess! I’m a couch potato! And I only slightly feel bad about it, maybe 10% bad.

I love sitting down. I love my couch, I love sitting on it, reclining on it, napping on it. I do my hair and makeup relaxing on it while I get ready and so on. There is even a permanent presence of a blanket on the couch to keep me warm.

Me enjoying the company of my couch

As I get older, I find I’m turning more and more into a couch potato. I’m too tired I say, I’ve been working all day I say, I have housework to do and I deserve a break. I have many excuses ready to go for when I need them.

Here is a real life example of how much I like sitting down from when I was 15 years old. On our journey from New Zealand to Britain, we stopped in Rome, Italy. There, we also visited the Vatican. Which was absolutely beautiful, it had numerous works of art and my parents love this kind of stuff. Me? Not so much. We would walk room to room appreciating the artwork (well, my parents did) and they would easily spend 20 minutes per room. Instead, I would take a visual sweep of each room and its art and promptly search for the nearest seat. This example from the Vatican can really be applied to any museum we have been too, or any museum we will ever go to. It’s not that I don’t like museums, I just prefer the more sciencey or fossil type of museums—but even then, I would still search for a seat.

Over the past couple weeks I’ve been getting back into exercise. Nothing too strenuous, just going to the gym and cycling for 30 minutes and stretching. Some days I mix it up and include using other gym equipment; I have no idea what the names of the equipment I use are, or what they do…but I use them nonetheless.

Confession: I find the gym mind numbingly BORING. The only way I can get through it is to watch Netflix. Lately, I’ve been re-watching season 1 of ‘Jane the Virgin’, and oh my, it is the only reason I manage to tolerate the gym.

I’m in love with my couch and nature, there is a hill called sofa stone that we frequent where I’m from, The stone really does shape like a sofa… Best of both worlds…

I’m positive couches have a magnetic force… Once you’re sat down, it’s too hard to pull yourself out!

    1. All I can think of are the humans in WALL-E! Ah the beds are very comfy (and usually much warmer than the couch!). Though, for me, the couch is much closer to the kitchen…less movement required for food and water.

I am like you as I grow older – couch potato! Nothing better than sitting down or even sitting down like you’re almost lying down or lying down 😀 That is what I look for in a weekend, and make sure I have time for that when I come home from doing groceries or a trip out somewhere.

Never went to the gym to workout and it does not appeal to me one bit. I do like walking outside in nature, and have been getting out and walking at least one day a week. I would use my bed as my motivation to get through these walks 🙂

    1. Hi Mabel,

So sorry for the delay in responding, I only noticed that I didn’t respond morning!
Oh yes, reclinning on thr couch is amazing. Ah nice, where do you like to walk? Around the neighbourhood, forest?
I do like how you use your bed as motivation, I think I might use that too!

I like to walk around a park near my place. Not too far so I can come back to my bed fast 😀
